Willow

When the garden was first created, we made contact with a local willow grower who generously donated some willow cuttings, allowing us to establish a willow plantation.

The particular varieties we have grown are ideal for garden structures such as obelisks, plant supports, hurdles and fencing, and we have sold much of our annual harvest to members of the public who use willow for these purposes.

We have recently been joined by a willow grower and weaver who advised us that there are also varieties we can grow for basketry. We have therefore acquired more than a dozen additional varieties specifically for this purpose.

They are currently growing in a nursery bed, and cuttings will eventually be planted out into more permanent positions in the garden.
